Over the past two weekends St Cyril’s counselling and theology students had the privilege of attending the Sacred Hospitality unit with Fr Stephen Muse, PhD., a pioneer and leader in the field of pastoral counselling and the integration of Orthodox theology and psychology. Students heard about the dia-Logos of Pastoral Counselling, the transformative personal encounter that occurs when both counsellor and the one seeking healing are both affected by the presence of Christ in their midst, opening up possibilities for the healing and growth of both, in ways that are beyond human power and comprehension. This unit was the perfect way to start the new counselling degrees offered at St Cyril’s by ensuring that we ground our counselling practice in Orthodox theology. We thank Fr Stephen for the blessings we have gained from this time with him, and we look forward to offering more counselling units at St Cyril’s in the future.
